Our First Disney Adventure
Growing up, I never had the opportunity to go to Disney World. I thought it was a magical place only available for the truly lucky. Tommy went once when he was a teenager with a friend’s parents but did not have the greatest of adventures. Our first trip to Disney together was with our our seven year old daughter, Emily. We wanted to bring her but could not afford to go. Tommy’s parents generously helped us pay for that trip. They purchased Emily’s tickets and we stayed in their condo. We planned the trip for April and surprised her with it the Christmas before. Check out her cute reaction to that news.
During that first trip, we truly had no idea what we were doing. We were clueless about dining reservations and fast passes. This is why we now highly recommend using a travel consultant!! We knew that we would have to bring most of our food with us because our finances were tight and so that is what we did. We stopped at Subway each day and bought sandwiches that we ate in the park. We bought water because we did not know that quick service locations gave water for free. We decided that we could afford at least one dinner and so we were able to get a table at Teppan Edo. We enjoyed it as we really loved hibachi.
At this point, while we had a great time, we were not completely sold on Disney but we knew we wanted to come back and stay onsite to get that authentic Disney experience. This gave us our first taste and after our second trip we were hooked.
